Replying to: Seraphina by Rachel Hartman

Seraphina is the feminine form of a Late Latin name, derived from the biblical word seraphim, which means “fiery ones”. It is certainly no coincidence then, that the main character in Rachel Hartman’s debut novel should be given such a name. A tale of intrigue and danger surrounds Seraphina, the fiery and determined young heroine, upon whose shoulders the fate of the kingdom lies.

Four decades of peace between humans and dragons, has not diminished the suspicion and fear each holds for the other. Despite the presence of dragons in human form, using their mathematical and rational minds as scholars and teachers in the kingdom of Goredd, tensions are high in the lead up to the anniversary of the signing of the treaty of peace.

When Prince Rufus is found murdered in the forest in a distinctly draconian manner, the threat of collapse to the peace between dragons and men, is increased tenfold. It’s up to the inquisitive Seraphina, with the help of the courageous and brave Prince Lucian Kiggs, to uncover the truth behind this devious plot.

However, Seraphina must also protect a secret of her own. An unnaturally gifted musician, there is a truth that Seraphina harbours that could destroy the life she’s managed to build for herself – and put her into mortal danger. A gripping and intriguing tale, Seraphina’s journey is one of bravery, and self-discovery. You will not be able to put this novel down – and the very minute you’ve turned the last of its pages; you’ll reach for the next in this delightful series! Enter into the rich and complex world of Seraphina, and embark on a tortuous yet enlightening journey.
