Replying to: Rapture by Lauren Kate

Reviewed by Ulrike Hill of Writers Write.

I am a fan of Lauren Kate. Her imagination is astounding. Kate has taken an esoteric idea and turned it into a supernatural story. Her stories are about Lucifer, a fallen angel. The other angels need to stop him from erasing the past and controlling the world. Lucifer has a special interest in Luce, a mortal. Readers will understand that the reason is that only Luce can stop the dark forces from winning. She alone determines the angels, hers and humankinds’ fate by breaking the curse. It is a rush against time as Luce, Daniel and the angels race to find three relics that will help Luce with her momentous task.

At times, I felt that Luce and Daniel did not have that spark that created interesting story points in the first book. This story is more about the chase than it is about romance.

The series began with Fallen and Rapture is the fourth and final book. I loved the first book but felt the next two books in the series disappointing and disjointed. Rapture does redeem the series. It concludes the story in a way that made me feel that it was worthwhile reading the four books.

The characters had become familiar to me and Kate kept them true to character in this book. I recommend Rapture for readers who enjoy this genre.

About the book:

The sky is dark with wings… And time is running out for Luce and Daniel. In order to stop Lucifer from erasing the past, they must find the place where the Fall began. Only Luce can break the curse, and it is her choice alone that will decide all of their fates. But as Dark Forces gather, great sacrifices will have to be made in this final, epic struggle…
