In the kitchen with Sarah Graham

In the kitchen with Sarah Graham

1. My first food memory is…

There are a lot, but one is my mother collecting waterblommetjies from a pond in her gumboots near Hermanus where we were living at the time. Another is my Gran's shortbread, I've still never tasted anything like it.

2. My top tips for home cooks are…

Just go for it! Throw caution to the wind, some of the biggest learnings I've had in the kitchen came through mistakes. Try something new at least once a week.

3. The one utensil / appliance in my kitchen that I couldn’t do without is…

My food processor, I use it to make everything from my healthy seed loaf to burger patties and my favourite Asian rainbow salad.

4. The most bizarre thing I’ve ever eaten is…

Eel in China

5. In my fridge & kitchen cupboards you’ll always find…

Fridge: Cheeses, butter, yoghurt, home made kefir (fermented yoghurt), lots of fresh salad ingredients
Cupboards: good olive oil, as many spices as I can fit in to them, lemons, garlic - and I couldn't cook without fresh herbs, most of which we grow at home

6. My favourite recipe from Home. Food from my Kitchen is…

Always so hard to choose! Obviously I love them all, but the Pork Belly is right up there!

Building on the success of her two previous books, and in support of her TV series, 'Sarah Graham’s Food Safari', Home. Food from my Kitchen encapsulates cooking throughout southern Africa.

Within the standard cookbook format of Brunch, Salads, Soups, Snacks, Meat, Poultry, Pasta, Seafood, Desserts and Baking, she presents food that is simple but beautiful, delicious and healthy. Most of the dishes can be prepared as easily outdoors as in your kitchen, and the recipes will work for family meals as well as casual dining with friends.

smitten. is a continuation of the conversation started in Sarah Graham’s first fun, funky and relevant cookbook, bitten. The focus this time around is on the extraordinary; the creation of uniquely quirky yet still achievable, budget-friendly and oh so- delicious food to share. Think a little elegance and a lot of je ne sais quoi. This is unintimidating food with a twist that the whole family will enjoy.

To make our busy lives easier, the recipes in smitten. are conveniently divided into categories such as Nibbles, Speedy Suppers, Feast and Slow. Whether looking to knock up a quick dish on a week night or feed a party of eight on a lazy Sunday afternoon, there is something here for everyone.

bitten. is a fun, funky, relevant recipe book for twenty- and thirty-somethings who love life, love food, love their friends, and love to squeeze the last drop from their time and money.

It is a collection of simple, down-to-earth and healthy, no-mess-no-fuss recipes that almost anyone can cook. A companion of convenience, the blog-themed writing style ensures that the writer/reader relationship is established right off the bat. bitten. is a quirky cross between a food memoir and a cookbook with un-intimidating recipes. Besides delicious dishes, bitten. features handy hints for the novice and reluctant cook, cooking and baking tips, and kitchen and baking starter kits. Also included is a useful Meals for a Month guide that takes the guesswork out of the eternal question 'What should I cook tonight?' Each dish in this nifty guide is complemented with a wine suggestion to help round off the perfect meal.
