Review of Magisterium 01: The Iron Trial

Review of Magisterium 01: The Iron Trial

Chris Naish joined Random House Struik for a week during October to job shadow. He made his way through the various departments at Random House Struik to find out more about the publishing industry, what actually goes on and who does what. The team in the marketing department are pretty confident that we managed to convince him that marketing is not only key in the publishing process but also the best department to work for! Plus we managed to get a review out of him for the first book the Magisterium series, The Iron Trial. Thanks Chris and good luck with your studies!

{ABOUT THE BOOK}
From the imaginations of bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare comes a heart-stopping plunge into the magical unknown.

Think you know magic? Think again. The Magisterium awaits…

Most people would do anything to get into the Magisterium and pass the Iron Trial. Not Callum Hunt. Call has been told his whole life that he should never trust a magician. And so he tries his best to do his worst – but fails at failing. Now he must enter the Magisterium. It's a place that's both sensational and sinister. And Call realizes it has dark ties to his past and a twisty path to his future.

The Iron Trial is just the beginning. Call’s biggest test is still to come…

{REVIEW BY CHRIS NAISH}
The book, Magisterium 01: The Iron Trial, is written by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare and begins with twelve-year-old Callum Hunt, the protagonist, regaling the reader with his vast history of driving teachers and councillors away with his attitude and deep anger.

Callum's world is turned upside down as his father, Alistair Hunt, takes him to the trials of the Magisterium to become a mage, but despite his influence and Callum’s best efforts to be failed in the tests he is strangely accepted by the most prestigious mage at the school, along with the best scoring candidates present.

Callum is thrust unprepared into the world his father hates, the world of Magic. He is met with intense emotions and extreme dangers, which would slowly replace the dire warnings that his father drilled into him with. He finds himself fascinated by magic and the love of two unexpected friends help him through his battles, keep his secrets and protect him from bullies who despise Callum and his success.

The novel is gripping, evokes emotions that are deeply buried and transports me into a world of magic, the likes of which are sadly lacking in this world.
