Save me from the Lion's Mouth by James Clarke

Save me from the Lion's Mouth by James Clarke

Taken from the review done by Ed Lemke of Pretoria News.

The lion will always conjure up fear and respect in our minds, but imagine living in an isolated part of the bush where your neighbours are taken regularly for the lion’s dinner and no one can do anything about it. Many of Africa’s governments regard all wildlife as property of the state and wild animals may not be hunted or killed. To the local population, all wild animals have therefore been downgraded to pests or vermin and bush meat in their eyes.

What rosy sunglasses are the tourists wearing? They are seen by the authorities of Africa as the cash cows of a lucrative industry, however little or no benefit earned from them actually filter down to the man who has lost his annual crop to rampaging elephants.

This is a very interesting and eye opening book which should be read by all who are concerned about the wild.

About the book:

Save Me From the Lion's Mouth investigates the increasing conflict between people and wildlife in Africa and what needs to be done about it. It describes the human suffering and perceptions of those who live outside the reserve fences among man-eaters and marauders yet are excluded from the economic benefits accruing from the wildlife around them.
